Idaho BaseCamp’s Sprouts Kinderschool offers an outdoor, nature-based early learning experience for children ages 4–6, where curiosity, creativity, and connection to the natural world guide each day.
Sprouts is a warm and nurturing environment where young learners grow through active, hands-on experiences. Rooted in rhythm, relationship, and time outdoors, the program blends imaginative play, storytelling, and creative activities with extended outdoor exploration and skill-building. Small class sizes ensure each child receives the attention and support they need to thrive, while healthy lunches and snacks nourish both body and mind.
Days at Sprouts unfold in a gentle rhythm of play, exploration, and connection. Children care for plants in the garden, interact with animals, harvest and prepare tasty meals together, and spend much of their time in the program’s large outdoor space. Located within walking distance of the river, the surrounding landscape becomes an extension of the classroom, offering regular opportunities to explore and connect with the natural world.
As part of Idaho BaseCamp, Sprouts reflects our nonprofit’s broader mission of Outdoor Adventure Education and the cultivation of an inner BaseCamp. Through muddy boots, imaginative play, shared meals, and discoveries in nature, children build confidence, resilience, and a lifelong love of learning.

Meet Our Sprouts Teacher:
Larissa Alvarado
Hello! I'm thrilled to be joining the Sprouts community in the Fall. I've been working with children in a variety of settings for the last 10 years- from public education to both Montessori and Waldorf schools. I'll be moving from Southwest Colorado, where I've been the lead Kindergarten teacher at Mancos Valley Dragonfly School, a Waldorf-inspired preschool and kindergarten. My degree in Elementary Education and minor in Outdoor Education has fueled my passion for hands-on, nature-based learning.

My teaching journey has taken me across the world, including 3 years teaching at Concordia International School in Hanoi, Vietnam. Exploring different cultures and planning adventures has shaped my perspective, and I love bringing all I have learned from across many cultures into the classroom. Outside of teaching, you'll find me enjoying the outdoors, sitting by a fire crafting, dancing, cooking, or snowboarding.

After many years of summers visits to Idaho, I'm thrilled to make the Wood River Valley my full time home. I am so excited to become a part of this community and look forward to getting to know each of vou wonderful parents!
