-
What is an Artist Residency? An Artist Residency is a temporary program that provides artists with the time, space, and environment to focus on their creative practice in a new setting, often alongside other creatives. In this Residency, the emphasis is on artistic exploration and experimentation rather than the pressure to produce a finished work. It offers a unique opportunity for artists to recharge, take risks, and deepen their practice in a supportive and inspiring atmosphere.
-
How long is the Residency? The Residency runs for seven days. This year it will run from July 24th-30th, 2025.
-
What does the Residency provide? Each artist will receive a $100 travel allowance, as well as $350 stipend upon completion of the Residency. Additionally, artists will be provided with accommodations, three nourishing meals a day, and full access to the Big Lost Campus.
-
Where is the Residency provided? The Residency takes place on Idaho BaseCamp’s Big Lost Campus, comprising 12.5 acres on the Big Lost River, just 45 minutes from Sun Valley, Idaho.
-
Are there services nearby? Please plan accordingly due to the remote nature of the Big Lost Campus and the surrounding area in Idaho. For reference, the nearest town to the Big Lost Campus is Mackay, Idaho, located about 30-45 minutes away. Sun Valley, Idaho is a 45-60 minute drive over a seasonal mountain pass called Trail Creek Road.
-
Is there Wifi on site?Yes! Wifi is always available in the main building and community gathering space, but it does not reach other parts of the Campus (including accommodations). Please view this intentional scarcity as an opportunity to disconnect from the outside world, and connect further with your art and other artists.
-
Are all meals covered?Yes! We have staff on site who work hard to provide healthy and nourishing breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the artists throughout the duration of the Residency. If you are accepted into the Residency, please let us know any dietary restrictions prior to your arrival. You are welcome to bring food for yourself if you want, but please be aware that storage space for food is limited.
-
Is there cell service on site? There is no cell service at the Big Lost Campus itself. You are always welcome to use the Wifi network or the landline phone in the main building to make calls.
-
Can I bring a partner to the Residency? This Retreat is intended as a solo creative experience in collaboration with other Artists. If you would like to bring a partner, there will be an additional food & accommodation fee; please indicate your preference in the application form and we will follow up.
-
Can we have visitors at the Residency? This Retreat is intended as a solo creative experience in collaboration with other Artists. If there is someone you would like to have come up to visit you for the day, please reach out to us first to confirm we can accommodate them.
-
Can groups apply to the Residency? We can only support duos at the moment, and each member of the duo will need to submit an individual application. We will treat each application as a separate artist application.
-
Can I reapply if I was not selected in a previous year?Absolutely! We encourage artists to reapply every year.
