Explorers

The Explorers program brings the classroom outdoors. Designed for elementary and middle school students, Explorers introduces kids to the wonders of nature while building skills that last a lifetime. Through a unique partnership with Far + Wise, Idaho BaseCamp complements the academic tutoring, mentorship, family engagement, and community service aspects of after-school programming by offering hands-on outdoor adventure education.
Idaho BaseCamp currently provides this program for students in Grades 2–4, with weekly three-hour sessions at the Bellevue Campus. During these afternoons, students explore local plants and animals, learn the importance of environmental stewardship, and engage in creative enrichment activities like art, play, and group challenges. These experiences foster developmental growth, cooperation, and respect for self, others, and the environment.

At its core, Explorers gives children the chance to explore, ask questions, and grow in a safe, supportive environment. Students don’t just learn about the natural world—they develop confidence, resilience, and a deeper sense of connection to themselves, their peers, and the land.

The program is designed to grow with the students. Early on, the focus is on foundational concepts such as animal habitats and plant identification. As children get older, the curriculum expands to cover ecology and climate change, while offering more adventurous challenges like backpacking and mountain biking.

We are grateful to Far and Wise for their commitment to making this program possible, and to the Silver Family Foundation for their generosity in supporting this program. We believe that this partnership will create a lasting impact on the lives of many children.
